1) Any ideas on the Spirit Airlines implosion? (Jack R., N.Y., N.Y.)
Though I never like to see any business go away so quickly, I also understand that this is a very competitive industry – requiring top notch performance by all. Anytime there are holes in the system, it is wiser to seal them up than to wait around and pour good money after bad. At any rate, hopefully the powers that be will figure out how to keep competition alive while also doing a much better job at providing improved options for the flying public.
2) In your view, how has the new war in the middle east affected private jet travel?
Well, the most obvious would be the impact of fuel prices. Just know that jet fuel is much more expensive than automobile fuel. Rather than pontificating, attached below is a screenshot of current prices from a familiar private airport.

You’re not seeing things. Jet fuel is currently between $8-11.35 per GALLON (OUCH!) How does this affect us at ANJET? First, it directly increases our wholesale aircraft charter costs. Sometimes, this adds so much to the overall costs that it is more expensive than shorter haul flights during other times. Second, it prevents us from conveniently “matching our clients” with the lowest rates – as prices seem high no matter what aircraft or mission involved. Third, it limits our access to the number of planes available around the clock. Aircraft operators may opt to ground planes that might otherwise be floating around the world and available to negotiate a great deal to return to/ leave base (i.e. “an empty leg”).
3) Books I’ve read in early 2026
- Notes on Being a Man, Scott Galloway (©2025). Best-selling author, entrepreneur, and NYU Stern School of Business professor addresses much of “bad advice” young men are provided – while likewise teaching today’s young men the importance of being accountable, getting out of the house and taking some chances (especially with girls), and burying the tendency to “blame the world” for all of its (obvious) problems. It is an outstanding guide for our young men out there realizing this scary world we all live in can also be your friend – if you let it!
Very solid read: 4 out of 5 stars
- You with the Sad Eyes: A Memoir, Christina Applegate (©2025). Wow. What a true example of “never judge a book by its cover.” What I mean has nothing to do with the actual cover of this book but rather our preconceptions of “Christina the actress” prior to diving into this book. Her road into acting was anything but a walk in the park. And even now, as she struggles through the daily horrors of living with multiple sclerosis, we’re able to gain an opportunity through her to peek into all the “behind the scenes reality” of a long ago actor whom we thought we knew so well and who seemed to live in a “worry-free world.” Christina Applegate really lowers the curtain and delivers a painfully candid examination of her amazing life! Kudos to her for burying the ego and letting all of us in. Not an easy chore!
Excellent read: 4.5 out of 5 stars
